Happy (belated) 60th birthday DAVID COVERDALE!
I can’t BELIEVE I missed out what date it was! Being on vacation does that I guess – you totally lose track of time, don’t even know what DAY it is. And so I somehow completely missed out on one of the most important birthdays of the year – DAVID COVERDALE turned 60!!!
My god, this man, his voice and his music has meant the world to me. Not only that, but in the past 10-15 years or so, he has always – ALWAYS recognized me everywhere, and always acknowledged it. This legendary man who has created music history with Deep Purple and then his own Whitesnake, knows who some Swedish person is, that is amazing to me.
Last time was in Belgium this summer, when he spotted me, smiled and then between two songs went: “Well hello Daniela! So nice to see you again! Looking great as always!” A small gesture like that can make your day. Especially when you feel like anything BUT “great looking” after two days in the rain and the mud. Even if he’s lying, I’m fine with THAT kind of lying, haha! :)
At Sweden Rock Festival back in June, I had the most amazing, mindblowing experience watching Whitesnake – bringing out Bernie Marsden on stage and then – Adrian Vandenberg…! I was so blown away, I just stood there bawling my eyes out! It was incredibly emotional, I cried for days afterwards only THINKING about it! And my video from that show broke every record, 12 000 people watched it in about a week!
A few years ago, he was the one to wish ME a happy birthday in Copenhagen. Those of you who know me have already seen this, those of you who don’t probably don’t give a fuck anyway but the point with this one is to show how the roles have turned this time. Now it’s my turn to wish David a happy birthday, through a video card put together by PurpleSnake. Check it out!
A few years ago it was David….
Now it’s me and all of us in the Whitesnake-choir from all over the world, wishing David a Happy birthday!!

Thank you David for your fantastic music, it has meant more than words can describe to so many of us. I can’t wait to see Whitesnake again this fall!
Ozzy in Poland, travels and Russian visitors
After a short concert-break, it’s time to start planning for “round two” of my Rock’n’Roll Travels again.
Next up is OZZY in Poland. It was kind of a bummer to miss him at Graspop (he cancelled that show due to illness) but I’m sure the show in Poland will be worth the trip.
While they’re travelling around in tour buses with everything that comes with it (I’ve done it, I know the little “details” that are far from nice or comfortable) – I’m flying everywhere and staying in decent hotels.
It’s not that I’m a rich bitch, Far from it. I’ve just done this for so long that I know all the tricks to get the best, cheapest deals for flights and hotels. Might share my tips someday. Or open my own rock’n’roll travel agency.
Like my Firewind-trip to the UK in September (which is the 1st round. After that, shows in NL, BE & DE + 3 shows overseas).
I’ll be going to 3 shows during a weekend+a Monday that I just kind of threw in there because I think that Reading-show could be interesting. ;-)
It includes flight Copenhagen-Manchester, hotel in Manchester 2 nights, train Manchester-Glasgow, hotel in Glasgow, flight Glasgow-London, airport-transfer and train London to Reading, train from reading to London and flight home to Copenhagen. Beat that price if you can.
I travel to see bands that I like, but sometimes, depending on the band, it’s more an excuse to travel than the reason. I’ve never been to Poland for instance. I most likely would never have gone there if I hadn’t found an excuse to go. Ozzy is one of the best “excuses” I could think of. :-)
Found a hotel that’s 3 minutes from the arena that I booked months ago. I’m glad I did because NOW, everything in Gdansk and Sopot (where the arena is) is sold out! And the rooms that are still available are crazy expensive. So, it pays of being early. It’s a cool designer hotel where each room is unique. No two rooms look alike. I hope I get that “John Lennon” Imagine-inspired room (the white one). Would be nice. :)

Anyway, I’m just glad and very much looking forward to the show – which by the way will be repeated two days later when I see Ozzy at Smukfest-festival in Skanderborg, Denmark. It’s actually a very strange place for him to play because it’s not really a rock concert. It’s all kinds of pop- and alternative music, Danish stars that I haven’t heard of, so I’m wondering about what kind of crowd he will have.
I saw some advertising at Copenhagen central station and they listed all kinds of artists, EXCEPT Ozzy. That’s weird. You get a legendary artist to the festival, and then you barely even mention it? If I hadn’t seen it on the Ozzy Android-app, I wouldn’t even have known about it.
Today is cleaning day. Getting a visitor from Russia on Friday. Probably one of the most “exotic” visitors, since I don’t know anyone from there, other than short chats I’ve had on Youtube with a girl who filmed Jon Oliva’s Pain at Bang Your Head last year.
Now I’ll be hosting Vera, a fellow colleague from the Russian edition of Classic Rock Magazine, that I met in the press-tent at Sweden Rock Festival.
She walked up to me when I was sitting there a few hours before the Judas Priest press-conference (before people started dropping in, because after that, you can forget about getting a good seat in there) and said she remembered me from a few years back – ALSO at the Judas Priest press conference. I had told her that I was a huge Priest-fan apparently.
Vera turned out to be super-nice and helpful. She offered to film the Priest press-conference so that I could concentrate on just listening or asking questions myself. She did that on yet another press conference, can’t remember which one (yeah, the thing about the short memory!).
And then on Zakk Wylde’s press conference, I came WAY too late, it had already started. She on the other hand, had been there on time, so when I rushed in, she offered me her spot so I could get a better angle if I wanted to film it. Just a very helpful and unselfish person, from what I could tell, not knowing much about her. :)
I’ve always trusted my gut-feeling when it comes to people. Sometimes I’m wrong, but most of the time I’m right. :) Spoke to to her briefly the other day and she started telling me about all the gigs she was going to during her visit in Sweden. I couldn’t help laughing because she sounded just like me! Then she comments on that going: “If there’s chance to see a gig, I always do!” Hell YES, sister!
That’s what it’s all about.
I don’t know too many people, especially not girls, who are like that. So it’s great to get to know a fellow rock chick that shares the same passion for music and live-music.
Check out her interview with Doro:
Well, time to start vacuuming, doing dishes and all that stuff, and transform this from a “before-and-after travel”-home with passport, adapters, carry-ons and tickets that are laying around the house, to a more guest-friendly area. :-)
Next destination: THESSALONIKI, Greece, Stop That Sound!
My suitcase is still open on the bedroom floor since Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, because there just is no point putting it away. Monday morning it’s time for the next destination: Thessaloniki, Greece.
Music has given me good reasons to go to places where I would probably never have gone otherwise. I get to see so much stuff, just because I’ve planned my journeys around some kind of music event. :-)) In this case, it’s the STOP THAT SOUND 2310 festival, featuring JUDAS PRIEST, WHITESNAKE & FIREWIND.
“This is big news: The first-ever music festival in Thessaloniki… hosted in Thessaloniki’s largest stadium, the Kaftanzoglio!
There was the U2 gig at the harbour in 1997 with at 50.000 crowd and that was it. OK, there have been gigs of Deep Purple, The Prodigy, Iron Maiden, Scorpions – but all these were in rather small venues (Theatro Ghis and PAOK Arena). This time it is big – at the Kaftanzoglio, Thessaloniki’s largest stadium with a capacity of about 35.000! And the city feels ready for it!”
The stadium:
Too bad in a way that I’m going on my own, seems like a city that would be fun to explore with a friend at least. But when you are out there travelling on your own, you get to meet people that you probably wouldn’t even have talked to if you had been travelling with someone, and sometimes you make new friendships. It’s all good, I’m used to it.
Two days I’ll be in Thessaloniki just touristing, and I don’t even know exactly where I want to go or what I want to do. I usually improvise because, if you make too many plans you only get disappointed if things don’t turn out the way you planned.
Being in a new city means that everything you see is new and exciting, simply because you haven’t seen it before! Even going to a grocery store in a different country is an experience, because there’s all this stuff that you don’t know what it is. :)The day after the festival in Thessaloniki, I’m going straight to the airport to fly to the next destination – London, UK. Spending one night there before taking the train to the Stevenage and the Sonisphere Festival. Got my accreditation papers last week. Only attending a few hours to see Firewind and Megadeth first and foremost, then taking the last train back to London and then from there somehow back to Heathrow to get on the first early flight home to Copenhagen – Malmo.
It will be exhausting and I just realized that I’ll be walking around with my luggage at the festival because I won’t have a hotel to keep it in that particular day, haha! Holy shit, this is going to be VERY interesting!
So yeah… all of this requires a lot of pre-planning just for the….uh….logistics. At this point, with everything going on down in Greece, I’m happy to just get there and get home without too much trouble. I have a feeling it will be alright. :-)

My YouTube-channel made it to Top 40!
When I checked my YouTube-channel this morning, there was a message saying that my channel was on the Top 40 list of most visited/most watched today. :-)
That was nice. It’s actually been quite crazy with the traffic to my YouTube-channel the past two weeks. It started when I uploaded a clip after the Whitesnake-show at Sweden Rock with special guests Bernie Marsden and Adrian Vandenberg. Not the best video in the world qualitywise, the stage is hopeless – cause with the catwalk-part, you can’t see what’s going on on all sides of the stage. That, and the camera-mic being too sensitive, picking up every sound from the crowd as well. But nevertheless, I must have been the first to upload something from this historic event. Cause over 11,000 people have watched it! In two weeks…. Crazy! It was so amazing, I still get tears in my eyes when I see that, that was extremely touching, seeing these guys together on stage after all these years, and the love they had for eachother and the music – I mean, all of it was just overwhelming. Then I uploaded the Judas Priest press conference and after that Zakk Wylde’s and Joan Jett’s press conferences – all of those also drawing a lot of people to the page. I guess it gives everybody who didn’t have the opportunity to be there, a chance to feel like they are participating in the festival-vibe in a way. And then of course, the interview with Gus G. I have to say, I was really very happy about that. I think the guy kicks ass in every possible way – musically, on a stage, as a person. It also turned out to be one of the most relaxed and fun interviews I’ve done in a while. Very enjoyable – and judging from the amount of visitors in just three days, it is appreciated by his fans too. No wonder.
Hopefully even more will discover it, cause I for one feel so relieved to see that there are people like Gus in the business still, who focus on their music, love what they do, and don’t have any rockstar- issues or the bad attitude that sometimes goes along with it.
There is still tons of material from Sweden Rock that I think people would enjoy, but I haven’t had time to organize it or upload any of it yet. And now, it’s time for Graspop in Belgium. Leaving on Friday. Can’t wait to see Whitesnake again!! Priest, my favorite band of all time, didn’t impress me at Sweden Rock so I can only hope that they give a better show at Graspop. I love that festival by the way. Last year was great, but that’s when I had the best VIP-treatment you could imagine, as a part of Jon Oliva’s Pain’s crew – but a guest.More about last year’s Graspop with live pix of Slash, backstage footage and more:

This year, I “only” have press-credentials, but it’s okay since a friend of mine decided to join me on the trip.
She just wrote this morning, and I can only agree with her words:
“I’m really yearning to go to a concert again, the feeling of being one with the music, feel it with your whole body and get intoxicated by it. It’s pure, true happiness when you feel that you are truly alive, here and now.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Never mind all that other stuff, the hierarchy of rock’n’roll where the bands are heroes and the fans are worshippers – it all comes down to one thing, and that’s the love of music. Nothing else matters.
THE WIZARD OF OZ – GUS G
This day in Ozzy history, Blizzard of Ozz went platinum in the US, 1982.
Today, 2011, Ozzy’s got something else that will also go to the history books of rock’n’roll: Guitar-wizard Gus G.
After Ozzy’s show at Madison Square Garden in NYC back in December, I was very impressed by “the new guy” whose fingers were faster than the speed of light.
He was handling his guitar like nobody’s business, moving across the stage like a true Rock Star, with confidence but without the arrogance.
That evening has been described in an earlier blog post which you can find here:
The World Needs Guitar Heroes
I made a note to myself that I would have to do an interview with this guy sooner or later.
Six months later I finally did.
Gus took time to do this at Sweden Rock Festival, shortly before he was due on stage on June 11th. As far as I know, he didn’t have time to talk to anyone else that day, so I’m glad that all the pieces of the “logistics-puzzle” worked out the way they were supposed to. :)
It’s all true – the stuff that you’ve read everywhere – yes he is one hundred per cent down to earth, a sincere non-bullshit sort of person who takes his musicianship seriously, but not for one minute allows himself to forget who he is or where he came from.
A star doesn’t need to prove anything, he lets his craftsmanship do the talking.
Meet the Wizard of Oz – Gus G.
